C Suite Session – Recruiting & Retaining Employees in a Competitive Market

The WCA’s C-Suite sessions are focused on subjects of specific interest to the top management people in your firm.
The topic for the next C-Suite Session will be Recruiting and Retaining Employees in a Competitive Market. Human Resource professionals cite employee retention/turnover as their top workforce management challenge. This is particularly true in the construction industry in our region. The C-Suite Session on May 9th will feature a panel discussion of this topic with leading experts in this field (see below.)

THE PRESENTERS

STEVE MIHALIK is a shareholder at Doeren Mayhew with more than 30 years of public accounting experience and a leader in the firm’s construction practice. He is a trusted advisor to closely held businesses in a variety of industries including general contracting, heavy highway and specialty trade contracting. Steve leverages sound accounting practices, risk-based assurance procedures and innovative tax planning strategies to help them meet their financial goals. Additionally, he provides valuable insight to his clients as they start-up, sell or transition their businesses; deal with banking decisions or face complicated tax challenges.

JASON FREEMAN is the the leader for Hylant’s Ann Arbor Employee Benefits Department.

He specializes in the planning, design, and implementation of full-choice flexible benefit programs for middle market and large market clients (50-5,000 employees). He also focuses on delivering a total rewards compensation package which, in addition to a competitive employee benefits plan offering, also incorporates full-scale corporate wellness plan development with an extensive employee communication and education campaign. Prior to joining Hylant, Jason was responsible for running the employee benefits practice for Willis of Michigan, which included the Farmington Hills and Grand Rapids offices. While Jason has spent the last 15+ years as a lead client consultant, he has also served in prior roles as an employee benefit account manager, as well as a financial and benefit plan analyst.
KRISTIE GUADIANOIS is the Director of Qualified Plans for Polaris Greystone and a member of the Business Development Team. Kristie works directly with business owners and company executives to create and manage their company sponsored retirement plans. In addition, Kristie and her team educate the employees of these firms about the merits of saving for their retirement and how to invest their money within the plans she helped design. Kristie came to Polaris Greystone after working as the 401(k) and 403(b) specialist at a large Detroit-based advisory firm. Kristie has extensive experience working with qualified retirement plans, having devoted the past 15 years of her career to working with retirement plans. Kristie earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Michigan State University.
MODERATOR: SANDY KOWALSKI is a business development and client relationship professional with Doeren Mayhew. Leveraging more than 20 years of experience, she develops and nurtures relationships with our clients’ executive teams to understand their unique business needs and objectives. Collaborating with the firm’s professionals, Sandy helps devise a solution of services to ensure these businesses’ needs are met. Whether its international or domestically focused, she’ll bring the right resources together to deliver sound audit, tax planning, wealth management, merger and acquisition, payroll, insurance or business advisory services. Her efforts have a special focus in the construction, health care, manufacturing, hospitality and real estate sectors. Prior to joining the firm, Sandy was a leader in the hospitality industry as a Managing Partner of a successful Metro Detroit restaurant group.
